Compatibility with assistive tools and extensions

We’ve rigorously tested our platform with a variety of native and external accessibility tools including Text-to-Speech, Speech-to-Text, and screen readers. Keep in mind that students may need to exit full-screen mode to access their tools’ controls.

Text-to-Speech and Speech-to-Text

• Compatible with external text-to-speech and speech-to-text tools and browser extensions that students may already use

• Built-in text-to-speech that reads content aloud during reading and voting phases, with words highlighted as they’re spoken. This feature uses the browser’s built-in technology and can be activated from your class settings.

Timing controls

WeWillWrite offers several timing flexibility options to accommodate different learning needs:

• Pause functionality: Teachers can pause the activity at any point during timed phases.

• Extended reading time: Teachers can extend the reading phase to 10 minutes from their settings and skip ahead at any point if the class is ready.

• Adjustable writing time: Before starting a writing challenge, teachers can customize the median writing time and set class-wide defaults for consistent timing. Writing time scales progressively to build stamina.

Language options and translation

At the moment, all of our official challenges are in English, but several teachers translate or adapt them into Spanish, French, and other languages for language learning or bilingual classrooms.

We are planning to add additional language options, beginning with Spanish. However, we do not have a specific timeline for when this feature will be available. Stay tuned for updates on language support!

COPPA and FERPA compliant

WeWillWrite is fully compliant with COPPA (Children's Online Privacy Protection Act) and FERPA (Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act). We also comply with Canadian federal and provincial privacy laws and state-specific student privacy legislation like:

• New York’s Ed Law 2-D

• California’s SOPIPA (Student Online Personal Information Protection Act)

• Illinois’ SOPPA (Student Online Privacy Protection Act)

We operate as a "school official" under FERPA, processing student data solely under the direct control of schools and districts.

Data minimization

We collect only what's essential for educational purposes, and only for as long as necessary. For students, we collect:

• First and last name for identification and progress tracking (no student logins)

• Class association to connect students with their teacher

• Device recognition to improve reliability and user experience

• Student work (texts written) for teacher review and learning assessment

No selling or sharing of data

We will never sell, rent, or share personal information with third parties for any purpose. We do not display personalized ads, create behavioral profiles, or use student data for commercial or non-educational purposes.

Protecting your information

We implement comprehensive security measures to protect your data:

• Encryption: Data encrypted in transit and at rest

• Secure authentication: Industry-standard password hashing and multi-factor authentication (MFA)

• Access control and confidentiality: Our team has signed confidentiality agreements and can only access data necessary for their role. Role-based access control (RBAC) is enforced.

• Trusted infrastructure: All servers located in the United States with enterprise-grade security

• Regular backups: Daily backups stored securely with zone redundancy

Commitment to responsible AI

We are committed to transparent, ethical Artificial Intelligence (AI) practices:

• No training on personal data: We do not use teacher or student information to train AI models, and our third-party AI providers don't either.

• Personal information excluded: Student names, schools, and IP addresses are not included in AI prompts

• School control: Student-generated content remains part of the education record under school control

What payment methods do you support?

Invoices for school purchases can be paid by:

• Debit, credit, or purchasing card (P-card)

• Online ACH via Stripe checkout

• Check (when purchasing 5+ licenses)

For an individual subscription for one teacher, please use the checkout in our portal.

If you need to use a PO for a small order: submit a quote request, then reply to the quote with how many licenses it should be updated for.

How do teachers get access?

After payment or submission of a PO, you’ll receive a unique activation link. Upon activating the licenses, you’ll see your dashboard with a unique invitation link to share with teachers. Check out our License Manager guide for more details.

A teacher can’t join the group. What should I do?

This typically happens when the teacher already has an active subscription through:

• A personal license purchase

• Existing membership in a group

Step 1: Activate licenses

After your purchase, you'll receive a unique activation link. Click this link to confirm your role as the license manager.

If you’re not logged in, you’ll be prompted to log in or create an account first.

If you’ll also use the platform as a teacher, you’ll need to join the plan using the invite link from step 2 after completing this setup.

Step 2: Invite teachers

After activation, you'll see your dashboard with a unique invitation link. Copy and share this link with all teachers who need access.

Step 3: Teachers join with the invite link

When teachers click your invitation link, they'll be asked to join your school's plan. Teachers will log in or create an account, then automatically join your license plan.

New users will receive a welcome email with resources to help get them started.

Managing licenses

Your dashboard is the central hub for overseeing licenses. From here, you can:

• Track licenses: Monitor how many licenses are in use (e.g., 1 / 20 licenses used)

• View teachers: See all teachers who have joined

• Remove teachers: Click the trash can icon next to a teacher's name to free up their license for another user
